Trousdale Estates Real Estate
Trousdale Estates is one of the most architectural neighborhoods in Beverly Hills, filled with mostly single story, high visibility, statement homes. Trousdale Estates is a 410 acre enclave developed in the 1950’s and 1960s on the former Doheny Ranch. The signature house of that property, Greystone Mansion is still the greatest tourist and cultural draw in Trousdale Estates, and is still the largest home in Beverly Hills. Trousdale Estates is located north of Sunset Boulevard and east of the Bird streets of West Hollywood. The majority of the homes were built in the 1960s by noted architects such as Wallace Neff, Quincy A. Jones, Lloyd Wright, and Richard Neutra, with their clean lines, walls of glass and jet-age features.
Steeped in Beverly Hills History, The Greystone Mansion is the heart and history of Trousdale Estates. The center of the massive Doheny ranch property, this family palace is steeped in history, oil money and scandal. At one point, Frank Lloyd Wright had plans for a Doheny Ranch Resort, all of which crumbled in the wake of family tragedy. In stepped the developer Paul Whitney Trousdale who swung a seemingly impossible deal with the Dohenys and convinced the city of Beverly Hills to extend its borders to include Trousdale Estates so he could develop his “Versailles on a Hill.”
Beginning in the 1950s, Trousdale Estates was marketed as a Shangri-La that promised, “A Life Above it All.” Building requirements meant 3,000 square foot minimums and single-stories to preserve the epic views on the gorgeous hillside. Trousdale Estates brought together top of the line modernist architects to work for celebrity clientele such as Groucho Marx, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher and Debbie Fisher to build the first incarnation of the beautiful Trousdale Estates. The 1960s brought even more high-profile residents to Trousdale Estates such as Elvis Presley, Richard Nixon, Dean Martin, Tony Curtis, and Janet Lee.
Today many of the Trousdale Estates homes have been updated while keeping the famous architectural integrity for truly spectacular levels of modern luxury and design. The modern era has been a true rebirth for Trousdale Estates, as its architecture and sensibility is back in vogue in the wider culture. Certain properties offer fabulous views that span from downtown Los Angeles all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Today’s top celebrities call Trousdale Estates home such as Courtney Cox, David Spade, Jennifer Anniston, Mathew Perry and Ringo Star.
Trousdale Estates has been home to many celebrities over the years because of its quick access to Rodeo Drive and West Hollywood with its ever-present buzz of the entertainment industry. Trousdale Estates residents also gain full access to Beverly Hills city amenities such as the great schools and city services.
