Holmby Hills Real Estate

One of the most expensive neighborhoods in the country, Holmby Hills is home to some of the world’s largest, most fantastic and famous homes. With large lots, mega-estates, fantastic weather and amazing access to all parts of Los Angeles, Holmby Hills has everything to offer the world’s uber elite. Some of the most famous properties in Holmby Hills include the former Spelling Mansion (a 50,000 square foot behemoth) which was sold to a British heiress and the world famous Playboy Mansion complete with the famous “grotto” swimming pool and private zoo on premises. When Candy Spelling sold her famous estate she downsized to a 47 million dollar condo in nearby Century City.

Present day Holmby Hills was originally the homelands of the Tongva Native Americans, who had a presence in the region for 8,000 years. Part of the Mexican land grant known as Rancho San Jose de Buenos Ayres, Holmby Hills was part of Maximo Alanis’ 4,500 acre holding. Alanis sold the holding in 1884 to Benjamin Davis Wilson, the second mayor of Los Angeles, who passed off the Westwood/Bel Air section to businessman William Wolfskill, who sold the area known as Holmby Hills to Arthur Letts for $100 per acre. The development known as Holmby Hills began being developed in the early 1920s. English streetnames and streetlamps were installed and grand mansions were constructed.

Another Holmby Hills draw is the top ranking prep school, Harvard Westlake, one of Los Angeles’ most exclusive educations. Also in close proximity is the Brentwood School and UCLA. There are also private country clubs in the neighborhood including the Bel Air and Los Angeles Country Clubs and the Armand Hammer pitch and putt golf course which is open to the public. Enjoy afternoon tea as you watch Rolls Royce limos roll by at any of these fabulous hotels.

Holmby Hills is home to Holmby Park and De Neve Square Park. Holmby Park includes two playgrounds, a putting green, and classic lawn bowling, a true European feel for the Holmby Hills residents.. Holmby Hills has long been a home to the stars with such legends as Walt Disney, Bugsy Siegel, Armand Hammer, Gary Cooper, Aaron Spelling, Jayne Mansfield, Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Ed Hardy, and Neil Diamond have all called Holmby Hills their primary residence. Many of the homes in Holmby Hills are over $10 million dollars. So be prepared for an expensive but elite lifestyle if you purchase in Holmby Hills.
